800W Plug-in Solar Panel Kit with Rigid Panels

This 800W plug-in solar kit pairs the EcoFlow STREAM Microinverter with two 400W EcoFlow rigid solar panels. The kit hits the maximum 800W output allowed under UK plug-in solar rules and generates around 670 to 800 kWh per year, paying back in 2 to 3 years at £478. Built for permanent residential installation rather than portable use.

Why 800W is the UK limit for plug-in solar

800W is the maximum output for UK plug-in solar systems under BS 7671 Amendment 4, published on 15 April 2026. The cap protects household wiring from overheating when solar generation feeds back into the circuit. The 800W Plug-in Solar Panel Kit sits exactly at this ceiling, so no further expansion is needed or permitted under the plug-in solar rules.

How plug-in solar panels generate 800W of power

The 800W Plug-in Solar Panel Kit converts sunlight into household electricity through three stages: the panels capture photons, the microinverter converts DC to AC, and the 230V AC output feeds your consumer unit. Appliances running during daylight draw from the solar supply before pulling from the grid, cutting grid consumption directly.

Here is how the kit produces its full 800W output:

  • Two 400W rigid panels generate 800W DC: the EcoFlow rigid panels run at up to 23% cell efficiency, delivering a combined 800W of DC electricity under full sun.
  • Split input across two MPPT channels: the EcoFlow STREAM Microinverter takes one 400W panel per channel, with each channel rated up to 600W input. This setup keeps each panel working at its own optimum point, even if light conditions differ across the two.
  • DC converts to 230V AC at UK grid frequency: the STREAM outputs 800W of AC power, matching the UK plug-in solar cap exactly.
  • Your home consumes solar first, then grid: when your household draws 1,200W on a sunny afternoon, the 800W kit covers 800W of that demand. The grid supplies only the remaining 400W.
  • Anti-islanding protects grid engineers: the STREAM shuts down automatically during a power cut, which is mandatory under UK grid connection rules for any plug-in solar kit.

Where the 800W kit works best

The EcoFlow 400W rigid panels weigh 21.8kg each and need a permanent mounting surface. The kit suits four installation types:

  • Balcony solar with structural support: south-facing balconies with a railing or frame rated for the panel weight.
  • Ground mounts: garden frames or flat-roof extensions where you want a fixed array without piercing your main roof.
  • Garages and outbuildings: pre-drilled mounting slots on the rigid panels make fixing to roofs or walls straightforward for an electrician.
  • Permanent off-grid cabins: workshops, sheds, or cabins with a portable power station setup through MC4 connectors.

How much could the 800W plug-in solar kit save you?

An 800W plug-in solar kit generates around 670 to 800 kWh per year in the UK, depending on panel orientation, shading and weather. At a UK electricity price of 27p per kWh, that knocks £180 to £216 off your annual bill. The 800W Plug-in Solar Panel Kit pays back in 2 to 3 years at £478, and the EcoFlow STREAM Microinverter carries a 10-year warranty, so the kit generates free electricity for at least 7 years after payback.

What drives savings on the 800W plug-in solar kit

  • Permanent mounting means permanent performance: fixed rigid panels on a south-facing balcony, garage or ground mount hold their angle year-round, which portable kits cannot match.
  • Hitting the 800W cap maximises daylight offset: the EcoFlow STREAM runs at its full 800W rating during peak sunlight hours, covering most of a household’s daytime base load (fridge, router, standby devices, standby heating).
  • Daytime appliance use compounds savings: households running washing machines, dishwashers or tumble dryers on delayed start during daylight lift self-consumption, pushing annual savings toward the top of the £180 to £216 range.
  • Higher unit rates accelerate payback: at 30p per kWh instead of 27p, the 800W plug-in solar kit saves £20 to £24 more per year, bringing payback under 2 years at some UK tariffs.

Value of the 800W kit for outbuildings and cabins

For permanent off-grid setups, the 800W plug-in solar kit powers garden offices, workshops, sheds and cabins through a compatible portable power station. 800W of solar input recharges a 2kWh power station in 3 to 4 hours of good sun, which runs lighting, small heaters, laptops, a kettle and a fridge for a full working day.

Installing the 800W plug-in solar kit in the UK

The 800W Plug-in Solar Panel Kit needs two installation steps: the EcoFlow 400W rigid panels are physically mounted onto a permanent surface, and the EcoFlow STREAM Microinverter is hard-wired into your consumer unit by a qualified electrician. Pre-drilled slots around the panel edges simplify mounting on balcony frames, ground mounts, flat roofs, garages and outbuildings. The hard-wired route is BS 7671 compliant, and the EcoFlow STREAM holds UK grid connection approval. Your electrician files the G98 notification to your District Network Operator within 28 days of commissioning, since the 800W system sits inside the 3.68kW G98 threshold.

FAQs: 800w Plug-in Solar Kit

Is an 800W plug-in solar kit legal in the UK?

Yes, plug-in solar is legal in the UK. BS 7671 Amendment 4 was published on 15 April 2026 and allows sub-800W plug-in solar systems to connect to UK homes. The final government approval for 800W plug-and-socket kits is expected in July 2026. Technically until then, compliant installation is via a hard-wired connection to your consumer unit by a qualified electrician but plug-in solutions will be available before then ready for the rules change. The government has confirmed this will be legal by the summer of 2026.

Is the 800W plug-in Solar Kit G98 Compliant?

Yes, The EcoFlow Microinverter is fully G98 Compliant, making it legally recognised and certified for safe connection to the UK electrical grid. In simple terms, G98 is a standard technical regulation set by the UK Energy Networks Association for small-scale, domestic renewable energy systems that output under 3.68kW. Being G98 compliant means the microinverter has undergone strict type-testing to guarantee it won’t disrupt your local power network. Most importantly, it features an integrated automatic safety switch off. If there is ever a power cut in your neighbourhood, the inverter instantly disconnects within milliseconds to prevent sending live electricity back into the external wires, keeping utility engineers entirely safe while they work on the lines. With this certification, you can plug in your balcony system with complete peace of mind, knowing it meets all UK safety and legal infrastructure requirements.

Please note that while advance permission is not required, you are still legally required to register your plug-in solar system by submitting a simple G98 notification form to your local DNO within 30 days of commission.

How much can the 800W plug-in solar kit save per year?

The 800W Plug-in Solar Panel Kit generates around 670 to 800 kWh per year in the UK, saving £180 to £216 on your electricity bill at 27p per kWh. Payback lands at 2 to 3 years on a £478 kit, followed by at least 7 years of free generation under the EcoFlow STREAM’s 10-year warranty.

Can the 800W kit be mounted on a balcony?

Yes, if your balcony has structural support rated for the panel weight. Each EcoFlow 400W rigid panel weighs 21.8kg, so two panels add 43.6kg of static load plus mounting hardware. Pre-drilled slots around the panel edges allow fixing to railings, frames or bracket systems. For balconies without structural headroom, the 300W plug-in solar kit with pop-up panels offers a lighter alternative at 4.8kg per panel.

Why choose rigid panels over pop-up panels?

Rigid panels deliver higher wattage per panel and higher cell efficiency. The EcoFlow 400W rigid panels run at up to 23% efficiency, compared to 22% on the 150W Excel Power pop-up panels. Rigid panels also hold their mounting angle permanently, which lifts year-round output compared to portable panels that may be repositioned or stored.

Can I expand the 800W kit later?

No, 800W is the UK legal ceiling for plug-in solar under BS 7671 Amendment 4. The EcoFlow STREAM Microinverter is already running at its 800W rating with the two 400W panels included, and adding more solar input would push the system above the legal cap. For higher output, a traditional grid-tied solar installation under G99 is the route to take.

Does this 800W kit suit caravans or motorhomes?

No, the EcoFlow 400W rigid panels weigh 21.8kg each and are built for permanent mounting, making them impractical for caravans, campervans or camping. For portable and vehicle-based use, the 300W plug-in solar kit with pop-up panels is the better choice, with 4.8kg panels that fold for storage.

When will I receive my order?

In most cases, a product on our website will give you an indication of the current stock availability, but shipping is not uniform for all products. We maintain fantastic relationships with all of our suppliers and we aim to get products to customers within 3 business days of the order being taken. This availability is based on information from our suppliers and from sales and supply patterns. The availability information given is a guide only and not a guarantee as there are external factors that we may not have control over.

Coronavirus Update – UK couriers and transport companies will not currently guarantee delivery times and we are seeing a slight delay in deliveries – please bear this in mind when ordering.

Specialist Couriers – Some items such as the larger portable power stations are sent by specialist courier as standard couriers will not accept them. These specialist couriers are very reliable but sometimes don’t have tracking or timed delivery.

Split deliveries – We sometimes need to send orders for more than one item by different courier networks (portable power stations for example) – so you may receive items at different times.

1500rpm machines or larger diesel gensets however are typically priced on application and all depend on the destination. We will be happy to quote on any large diesel generator and discuss your needs over the phone or via email.

Most orders placed before 12pm on a business day will be shipped from our suppliers on the same day provided the product is in stock. If you need to be certain an item is in stock and available, or if you need a lead time, it’s worth calling our sales team on 01329 722390. Pricing for extended shipping areas like Northern Ireland, the Scottish Highlands and outlying Islands, Outer Hebrides, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Scilly Isles, and other postcodes not considered as UK mainland are calculated at the checkout or can be obtained by calling our offices.

Please note that the processing of a payment and acknowledgement email does not constitute a legally binding contract. In the case of mispricing, changes in stock quantity, or if we believe the machine will be misused, we reserve the right to cancel the order and provide a full refund.

Heavy Items

You will be contacted by phone after ordering a larger item to confirm a delivery date before your order is dispatched. Large or heavy items are dispatched through a pallet network, so if we can’t get in contact with you, we may be unable to send out your item on a next day delivery. Please be sure to include a working phone number with your order.

Heavy items will require the recipient to make arrangements to take delivery of the goods and may require the recipient to help the courier unload the item. For items that are delivered on a pallet the courier will leave the pallet as close to your door as possible.

1500rpm diesel generators will require forklift (or similar) offloading; if this is not available then we can arrange a Hiab offload at an additional price – please call us to discuss any delivery requirements.
