This 800W plug-in solar kit pairs an 800W micro-inverter with two 430W glass-glass monocrystalline solar panels, shipped as a complete kit for permanent or semi-permanent residential installation. The 860W of solar input feeds an 800W AC output, sitting at the ceiling, permitted under UK plug-in solar rules, and the kit generates up to 750kWh per year, depending on panel orientation and location. The complete system carries a 10-year warranty and an IP67 environmental protection rating on the micro-inverter.

What are plug-in solar panels

Plug-in solar panels are compact solar kits made up of panels, a microinverter, and a connection cable. The kit feeds electricity into your home’s existing circuit without a rooftop installation, reducing how much power you draw from the grid during daylight hours. BS 7671 Amendment 4, published on 15 April 2026, allows UK plug-in solar systems up to 800W AC output. This kit sits exactly at that ceiling.

How the 800W + 860W kit generates power

The 800W Plug-in Solar Kit converts sunlight into household electricity through three stages: the panels capture photons, the micro-inverter converts DC to AC, and the 230V AC output feeds your home’s circuits. Appliances running during daylight draw from the solar supply before pulling from the grid, cutting grid consumption directly.

Here is how the kit produces its full 800W output:

  • Two 430W glass-glass panels generate 860W DC: each panel operates at up to 20.7% module efficiency under standard test conditions, delivering a combined 860W of DC electricity under full sun.
  • Over-dimensioned input lifts consistent output: the 860W of panel capacity feeding an 800W inverter is standard practice, meaning the inverter reaches its full 800W AC rating more consistently across varying light conditions rather than only at peak midday sun.
  • DC converts to 230V AC at UK grid frequency: the micro-inverter outputs 800W of AC power with a power factor above 0.99 and output current harmonic distortion below 3%.
  • Your home consumes solar first, then grid: when your household draws 1,200W on a sunny afternoon, the 800W kit covers 800W of that demand. The grid supplies only the remaining 400W.
  • Anti-islanding protects grid engineers: the micro-inverter shuts down automatically during a power cut, which is mandatory under UK grid connection rules for any plug-in solar kit.

How much could the 800W + 860W kit save you?

The 800W Plug-in Solar Kit generates up to 750kWh per year in the UK, depending on panel orientation, shading, and weather. At the current Ofgem electricity unit rate of 24.67p per kWh (April to June 2026), that offsets approximately £185 off your annual electricity bill. The kit is priced at £599.99, putting the theoretical payback period at approximately 3.5 years. The 12-year warranty means the kit generates electricity for at least 8.5 years after payback.

What drives savings on the 800W + 860W kit

  • Permanent mounting means permanent performance: fixed panels on a south-facing balcony, wall, or ground mount hold their angle year-round, which portable kits cannot match.
  • Hitting the 800W cap maximises daytime offset: the micro-inverter runs at its full 800W rating during peak sunlight hours, covering most of a household’s daytime baseload, including fridge, router, and standby devices.
  • Daytime appliance use compounds savings: households running washing machines, dishwashers, or tumble dryers on delayed start during daylight hours push annual savings toward the top of the range.
  • Higher unit rates accelerate payback: at 30p per kWh instead of 24.67p, the kit saves an additional £20 per year, bringing payback under 3 years on some UK tariffs.

Full UK Grid Compliance: G98 Certified

The TSUN 800W Plug-in Microinverter is fully G98 Compliant, making it legally recognised and certified for safe connection to the UK electrical grid. In simple terms, G98 is a standard technical regulation set by the UK Energy Networks Association for small-scale, domestic renewable energy systems that output under 3.68kW. Being G98 compliant means the microinverter has undergone strict type-testing to guarantee it won’t disrupt your local power network. Most importantly, it features an integrated automatic safety switch off. If there is ever a power cut in your neighbourhood, the inverter instantly disconnects within milliseconds to prevent sending live electricity back into the external wires, keeping utility engineers entirely safe while they work on the lines. With this certification, you can plug in your balcony system with complete peace of mind, knowing it meets all UK safety and legal infrastructure requirements.

Please note that while advance permission is not required, you are still legally required to register your plug-in solar system by submitting a simple G98 notification form to your local DNO within 30 days of commission.

Installing the 800W + 860W Kit in the UK

The 800W + 860W Plug-in Solar Kit combines two solar panels with an 800W microinverter, providing greater generating capacity for households looking to reduce their reliance on grid electricity. Both panels should be securely positioned and connected to the microinverter using the supplied connectors. Once the included AC cable is plugged into a standard UK socket, the system automatically converts the solar energy generated into usable household electricity. Performance from both panels can be viewed through the TSUN Smart App.

FAQs

Is the 800W + 860W plug-in solar kit legal in the UK?

Yes. The UK government confirmed the legalisation of plug-in solar in March 2026, with BS 7671 Amendment 4 taking effect on 15 April 2026. The BSI product standard certifying specific kits for the UK market is expected around August 2026.

Why does this kit have 860W of panels but an 800W inverter output?

The 860W of solar input feeding an 800W inverter is standard over-dimensioning practice. Having more panel capacity than inverter rating means the system reaches its full 800W AC output more consistently across varying light conditions, including early morning, late afternoon, and overcast days, rather than only at peak midday sun. The inverter clips any input above 800W, with clipping losses of roughly 1 to 3% annually in UK conditions.

How much can the 800W + 860W kit save per year?

The kit generates up to 750kWh per year in the UK. At the current Ofgem electricity unit rate of 24.67p per kWh (April to June 2026), that offsets approximately £185 annually. Output varies by panel orientation, shading, and season.

Can I expand the 800W + 860W kit with more panels later?

No. 800W is the UK legal ceiling for plug-in solar under BS 7671 Amendment 4, and this kit already runs at that ceiling with 860W of panel input. Adding more panels would push the system above the legal cap. For higher output, a traditional grid-tied solar installation under G99 is the route to take.

When will I receive my order?

In most cases, a product on our website will give you an indication of the current stock availability, but shipping is not uniform for all products. We maintain fantastic relationships with all of our suppliers and we aim to get products to customers within 3 business days of the order being taken. This availability is based on information from our suppliers and from sales and supply patterns. The availability information given is a guide only and not a guarantee as there are external factors that we may not have control over.

Coronavirus Update – UK couriers and transport companies will not currently guarantee delivery times and we are seeing a slight delay in deliveries – please bear this in mind when ordering.

Specialist Couriers – Some items such as the larger portable power stations are sent by specialist courier as standard couriers will not accept them. These specialist couriers are very reliable but sometimes don’t have tracking or timed delivery.

Split deliveries – We sometimes need to send orders for more than one item by different courier networks (portable power stations for example) – so you may receive items at different times.

1500rpm machines or larger diesel gensets however are typically priced on application and all depend on the destination. We will be happy to quote on any large diesel generator and discuss your needs over the phone or via email.

Most orders placed before 12pm on a business day will be shipped from our suppliers on the same day provided the product is in stock. If you need to be certain an item is in stock and available, or if you need a lead time, it’s worth calling our sales team on 01329 722390. Pricing for extended shipping areas like Northern Ireland, the Scottish Highlands and outlying Islands, Outer Hebrides, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Scilly Isles, and other postcodes not considered as UK mainland are calculated at the checkout or can be obtained by calling our offices.

Please note that the processing of a payment and acknowledgement email does not constitute a legally binding contract. In the case of mispricing, changes in stock quantity, or if we believe the machine will be misused, we reserve the right to cancel the order and provide a full refund.

Heavy Items

You will be contacted by phone after ordering a larger item to confirm a delivery date before your order is dispatched. Large or heavy items are dispatched through a pallet network, so if we can’t get in contact with you, we may be unable to send out your item on a next day delivery. Please be sure to include a working phone number with your order.

Heavy items will require the recipient to make arrangements to take delivery of the goods and may require the recipient to help the courier unload the item. For items that are delivered on a pallet the courier will leave the pallet as close to your door as possible.

1500rpm diesel generators will require forklift (or similar) offloading; if this is not available then we can arrange a Hiab offload at an additional price – please call us to discuss any delivery requirements.
